Tanzania: A Photographic Safari

June 3 - 12, 2008 (optional Zanzibar excursion)

Explore this east African country with photographer Brooke White, assistant professor of art at the University of Mississippi. Experienced guides will take participants through the national parks of Tanzania, leading them to areas optimal for seeing African wildlife. Travelers will have the opportunity to photograph the stunning African landscape ranging from the Ngorongoro Crater, the world's largest unbroken caldera to the grasslands of the Serengeti, home to the largest and longest overland migration in the world.

Teaching Philosophy

As an artist and educator I believe it is important to provide students with a solid grounding in the technical skills of any medium, and a fluency in older methods and contemporary technology is also necessary. Since it is the understanding and the fusion of both, the old and the new, that defines the future of art making as a means of artistic self-expression and communication. As an educator I feel it is my role to help students establish a strong foundation in state-of-the-art software, current topics, theory and critical thinking, combined with technical fluency. With an understanding of what has been done, and what has yet to be done, combined with the inspiration to find new techniques and methods of challenging the medium, students will come to understand the potential that Digital Media/Photography has as a successful form of expression and discourse.
